Everything you need to know about Unakite.

Unakite, also called Unakite Jasper, is a kind of stone containing pink Orthoclase feldspar, green Epidote and quartz particles. It has a characteristic speckled green and pink look, and when refined, it takes on a stunning multi-coloured aspect that creates eye-catching accessories.

Its chemical composition is KAlSi308, Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH) & SiO2, and it measures 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

It is a semi-precious stone, and since all the components are quite common minerals found in the Earth’s crust, Unakite remains relatively inexpensive and readily available, especially to those living in the vicinity of the Unakas Mountains.

Unakite has multiple localities in the United States aside from North Carolina. Active and abundant veins are located in New Jersey and Virginia, with most of the “construction grade” material coming out of the latter locality. Other countries who host notable deposits of Unakite are China, Brazil, South Africa and Sierra Leone.

Something vital to remember when choosing and spotting real Unakite is that it must have the pink granite inclusion. If it doesn’t have this pinkish deposit then it would be considered to be Epidosite.

Epidosite is often confused with Unakite due to the similar texture, colouration and make-up of the stone. The easiest way to spot the difference is that Epidosite has a more pistachio green colour and no pink feldspar. Unakite will always have the pink feldspar, even if it’s a small amount, and the green hue will be a deeper mossy green.

Unakite best combines with:

  • Moldavite or Hermiker Diamonds: To enhance its magical abilities.

  • Black Obsidian: These 2 combined help with healing an addiction.
  • Calcite, Amethyst or Agate: Combine with either of these crystals if you're looking for power and energy.
  • Angelite, Larimar or Celestite: All of these stones are mind-opening ones that can help us see more clearly into the sometimes seemingly inscrutable powers of the universe. Together they promote growth and psychic development.
