Everything you need to know about Pyrite.

Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic lustre. It has a chemical composition of iron sulphide (FeS2) and is the most common sulphide mineral. However, pyrite is often associated with gold. The two minerals often form together, and in some deposits pyrite contains enough included gold to warrant mining.

Pyrite is widely distributed and forms under extremely varied conditions. For example, it can be produced by magmatic (molten rock) segregation, by hydrothermal solutions, and as stalactitic growth. It occurs as an accessory mineral in igneous rocks, in vein deposits with quartz and sulphide minerals, and in sedimentary rocks, such as shale, coal, and limestoneIt is measured as having a hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale.

For many years Spain was the largest producer, the large deposits located on the Tinto River being important also for copper. Today Italy and China are the world’s largest producers, followed by Russia and Peru.

Unfortunately, there are fake pyrites coming into the market made of a sparkly silver glue. The same sparkly silver glue is being used to glue different types of crystals together as well, and then being sold to you like a crystal cluster fused together with “pyrite”, as if it formed naturally this way. Real pyrite is chunky, shiny, and looks like gold although never as yellow as real gold. That’s why it’s sometimes been called fools gold. It’s little nobs and holes and nodules are very big. It can come in a silver colour as well and if it is genuine it is very sparkly, but sparkles only with the same colours of the stone - as in silver pyrite sparkles a white colour, gold pyrite sparkles yellow. Real pyrite is very heavy. Fake pyrite is dull, sometimes has a black hue, it has very small nodules and nobs and chunks, and sometimes sparkles rainbow colours or does not sparkle much at all. It is very light weight and will turn black if your skin rubs on it too much.

Pyrite best combines with:

  • Selenite or Onyx: Both these stones will help enhance the effects and energies Pyrite projects into the world.
  • Citrine, Jade or Clear Quartz: For a supersized dose of good luck. Each of these stones amplifies the others' power, so combining them in a grid for meditation or healing is an excellent way to bring your dreams to life.
  • Magnetite: This combination is extremely beneficial when it comes to dealing with problems of assimilation and bowel imbalances as well as issues with elimination. In fact, it is useful in instances of the prostate or testicular problems and male infertility.

  • Opalite: When combined, these two crystals can help you in manifesting the desire of your heart, whether that’s in career, business, home, health or love life. When you are working and focusing on your dreams, having this one of the best crystal combinations for pyrite can be a great help.

The name comes from the Greek word pyr, “fire,” because pyrite emits sparks when struck by metal. Pyrite is called fool’s gold; to the novice its colour is deceptively similar to that of a gold nugget. Nodules of pyrite have been found in prehistoric burial mounds, which suggests their use as a means of producing fire. Wheel-lock guns, in which a spring-driven serrated wheel rotated against a piece of pyrite, were used before development of the flintlock

Pyrite is an excellent stone of manifestation, allowing one to draw high-frequency energy into the physical body and utilizing it to take action in creating abundance for one’s life. Its frequency stimulates the creative flow of ideas and concepts, and helps one embrace their innate abilities and potential.

Pyrite can also be used in body layouts for balancing polarities and creating harmony within the aura. It should be placed on the Third Chakra, in the hands, and at the Base Chakra to anchor one’s auric field firmly in the body, in proper alignment for optimal functioning of the spiritual self in the physical world.

When it comes to physical healing, Pyrite is all about building up your strength and stamina. Remember, it’s a healing stone that leans on its masculine energy. Because of its love of protection, Pyrite is an incredible stone for cutting down on environmental pollution and the effects of this on the body.

Pyrite supports the ideal of perfect health and well-being, drawing on universal energies to activate the nourishing energies of the body. In healing it often gets fast results, and can be beneficial in cases where no resolution seems possible. It is known for bringing out the cause of diseases for examination, and is helpful in getting to the root of karmic and psychosomatic dis-ease.

This mineral shields the body from environmental pollutants, as well as contagious diseases. It may be useful in fighting colds, flu and other viruses, skin diseases and fungal infections, and may be beneficial in treatments for highly infectious diseases. It has also been used to lessen fever and reduce inflammation, and is an excellent stone of protection for caregivers and medical workers.

Pyrite increases oxygen supply to the blood and strengthens the respiratory and circulatory systems. It is beneficial to the lungs, helping to alleviate asthma and bronchitis, and may be used in treating blood disorders. It assists in treatments of the bones, both in structure and cell formation, and helps prevent and repair DNA damage.

Pyrite also stimulates proper endocrine function and is excellent for combating male impotence and infertility.

When it comes to emotional strengthening this is where Pyrite truly lights a fire in the soul. Once we feel protected from outside elements it's so much easier to feel safe and secure in one's own skin. You will notice confidence levels starting to creep up, you will be able to bring out those natural leadership qualities you could have had stashed away, and you will easily be able to see beyond pretence and to live in the light of authenticity.

If you have been tangled up in depressive thoughts or residing in anxiety, Pyrite is here to help you step away from those thoughts and fears, to overcome all that is holding you back, and to take action to live the life you were born for.

We source our Pyrite from the Huanzala mine in Peru we have one supplier who has access to the mine for its ethical practises. Pyrite is a tricky mineral to source, in fact, due to the ethics and safety behind this mineral. The majority of the Pyrite coming out from Trujillo has a very high content of arsenic and is a toxic material that can cause health risks. Easy to distinguish this by black markings/patches, this means that mixed chemicals and material have been coated to make the Pyrite much shinier, clean and crisp, making the Pyrite look more expensive and premium for a cheaper price! Always keep an eye on which mines and companies your pyrite is coming out of.
The miner we purchase from has a team of lapidary services to carve high quality beautiful polished tumble stones, carvings and Jewellery. None of our suppliers work with children under age. It is illegal in most countries now to mine with children, the businesses we work with comply and are registered under the Ethical sourcing conduct.
